An H81 motherboard is built around the H81 chipset designed to support Intel’s 4th-generation “Haswell” CPUs in socket LGA1150 format (also known as Socket H3). With two DDR3 DIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory (up to ~16 GB in most boards) it offers a compact and cost-effective platform.  Expansion tends to be modest: one PCIe x16 slot for a graphics card, a couple of PCIe x1 slots and a handful of legacy PCI slots on some models.  Storage interfaces typically include two SATA 6Gb/s ports plus one or two SATA 3Gb/s ports—adequate for SSDs + HDDs but not richly featured. The back-panel I/O typically includes USB 3.0 ports (usually two), USB 2.0 ports, integrated graphics outputs (VGA and DVI or HDMI depending on the board), and Gigabit LAN plus onboard audio.

In summary: an H81 motherboard offers a reliable entry-level platform for everyday desktop use—web browsing, office productivity, media playback and light gaming (with a discrete GPU added). It’s not meant for overclocking or heavy workstation tasks (those are better suited for Z-series chipsets). But if you’re building or upgrading on a budget with a Haswell CPU, an H81 board delivers the essentials without overspending.
